October 3, 2013: The 2014 Incheon Asian Games Organising Committee (IAGOC) has appointed rhythmic gymnast Son Yeon-jae as a Goodwill Ambassador for the 2014 Asian Games.

Son, 19, is one of the most popular sports stars in Korea and the country’s most successful rhythmic gymnast.

The teenager was the Individual All-Around bronze medallist at the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games and gold medallist at the 2013 Asian Championships. She placed fifth in the Individual All-Around event at both last year’s London Olympic Games and this year’s World Championships.

“It is a great honour to be the Goodwill Ambassador for one of the biggest international sporting events to be held in Korea,” Son said. “I will do my best to represent the Games well and to perform my best in the competitions.”

Kim Young-soo, President of IAGOC, said: “Son Yeon-jae is a rising and popular star in the world of rhythmic gymnastics. We hope that the 2014 Incheon Asian Games will also be well promoted among the 4.5 billion Asians and become a successful Games.”
