August 27, 2014: Former Chicago Bulls star Horace Grant will be a star attraction when NBA 3X returns to Singapore from September 26-28.

Following the success of last year’s event, which featured 100 teams, NBA 3X will be held at the newly opened Singapore Sports Hub and feature three-on-three matches alongside NBA entertainment and attractions.

Grant, a four-time NBA champion and an NBA All-Star in 1994, is looking forward to interacting with fans in Singapore through clinics and community events.

“I’m excited for my first trip to Singapore for NBA 3X,” said Grant, who won three straight NBA titles with the Chicago Bulls (1991-93) alongside Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, and another in 2001 with the Los Angeles Lakers.

“I have travelled all over the world promoting NBA 3X, a great platform that provides an opportunity for fans not only to play competitively against each other but also to soak in the unique NBA experience and atmosphere.”

The competitive 3×3 tournament features competitions for boys under-18, under-16 and under-13, and for girls under-18. There will also be an open category for both men and women. Registration is now ongoing on a first-come first-serve basis and runs until September 19 or until all slots are full.

Scott Levy, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, NBA Asia, said: “In partnership with Sport Singapore, we are thrilled to bring NBA 3X back for the second year in a row. The NBA fan base in Singapore continues to grow and this family-friendly, lifestyle event is the perfect opportunity to bring basketball players and fans together to celebrate the game.”

Free fan activities include a slam-dunk contest, basketball clinics, three-point shootouts, skills challenges and autograph sessions, while an NBA dance team and an NBA mascot will also perform. There will be an hourly giveaway of limited NBA merchandise at the NBA Corner and during half-time for spectators, as well as a chance to win a meet and greet session with the NBA talents.

Lai Chin Kwang, Chief, ActiveSG, Sport Singapore, added: “Basketball is one of the most popular sports in Singapore and is already being played widely in schools and at a community level. The opportunity to host such a renowned event in Singapore with a strong community element will certainly excite the basketball enthusiasts.

“This can also encourage those who are not playing to take up basketball programmes at our ActiveSG Sports Centres to keep fit and bond better through sport. We also want our people to live better through sport, so we always welcome innovative, popular programmes like NBA 3X to spice up our offerings.”

Registration fees for the age divisions run at S$40 per team and for open divisions at S$60 per team. There will be prizes for the winner of each division, while all participants will receive an event jersey and an NBA sling bag.

Partners of NBA 3X Singapore 2014 include official partners Adidas and Sport Singapore, with Spalding serving as a supporting partner. StarHub is the Official Broadcaster of the NBA and will provide media coverage and promotion of the event.
