October 9, 2014: Special Olympics Singapore has received S$5,000 from the recent NBA 3X Singapore, which was held from September 26-28.
The second edition of the three-day basketball fiesta ended on a high with the winning teams of the 3×3 competition taking part in the adidas Shoot-For-Charity Challenge to raise funds for charity. Over S$400 was raised at the challenge and the NBA contributed additional funds to bring the final donation to S$5,000.
NBA Legend Horace Grant attended the event and conducted a special clinic for the athletes of Special Olympics Singapore, Grace Orchard School and Singapore Disability Sports School as part of the NBA Cares programme.
Through this programme, the NBA, its teams and players have donated more than US$242 million to charity, completed more than 3 million hours of hands-on community service, and created more than 915 places in 26 countries and territories on five continents where kids and families can live, learn or play.
NBA Cares works with internationally recognised youth-serving programmes that support education, youth and family development, and health-related causes. The partners include KaBOOM!, Special Olympics, YMCA, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, UNICEF, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Share Our Strength and GLAAD.
