August 6, 2013: Qatar beat 75-61 Jordan in their opening Group E match on Monday and next face the Philippines and their passionate home supporters on Tuesday in the second round of the FIBA Asia Championship in Manila.


The Philippines beat Japan 90-71 on Monday, while unbeaten Chinese Taipei beat Hong Kong 94-55 at the 20,000-capacity Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, which is hosting all the matches from the second round onwards.


Chinese Taipei, who beat the Philippines in Group A in the first round, top Group E ahead of Qatar on points difference, with both teams winning all their matches so far.


In Group F, defending champions China held off Kazakhstan 73-67 as they seek to make up for two first-round losses, which have carried over to the second round.


Iran top Group F after recording their fourth successive win with a 102-58 victory over India, while Korea beat Bahrain 96-51 and are second, ahead of Kazakhstan on points difference.


The second round comprises two six-team groups. Group E comprises the top three teams from each of Groups A and B from the first round, while Group F comprises the top three teams from Groups C and D. All results are carried over except those against the eliminated teams.


The top four teams in each second-round group will progress to the quarter-finals.
