November 11, 2014: Al Hilal striker Nassir Al Shamrani has been nominated for the 2014 AFC Player of the Year award along with Al Ain centre-back Ismail Ahmed and 2006 winner Khalfan Ibrahim of Al Sadd.

The AFC Annual Awards will be held in Manila on November 30 in conjunction with the AFC’s 60th anniversary celebrations.

Top scorer or joint-top scorer in Saudi Arabia’s top flight in five of the past seven seasons, Al Shamrani netted 10 times in this year’s AFC Champions League as Al Hilal reached the final.

Ahmed, who helped Al Ain reach the semi-finals of the AFC Champions League, is bidding to become the first player from the UAE to win the prize. Ibrahim, 26, became Qatar’s first winner in 2006 and has again been in fine form for club and country, helping Al Sadd into the last eight of the AFC Champions League.

Two-time winner Aya Miyama of Japan, compatriot Nahomi Kawasumi and Katrina Gorry of Australia have been nominated for the AFC Women’s Player of the Year award.

Miyama, who won the accolade in 2011 and 2012, helped Japan win the AFC Women’s Asian Cup in Vietnam, where the 29-year-old was named Most Valuable Player. Kawasumi, also 29, was also part of Japan’s AFC Asian Cup winning team, while Gorry, 22, helped her team reach the final in Vietnam.
