January 20, 2015: Commercial Bank announced a three-year extension to its title sponsorship of the US$2.5 million Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, which sits at the heart of The European Tour’s Middle East swing at the beginning of the year.

Commercial Bank is this year marking its 10th year as title sponsor, from 2006, and announced its latest extension with the Qatar Golf Association ahead of this year’s tournament, which tees off at Doha Golf Club on Wednesday. The new agreement will cover title sponsorship from 2016 through to 2018.

Abdulla Saleh Al Raisi, CEO of Commercial Bank, said: “This year Commercial Bank is celebrating its 40th year as Qatar’s largest private bank and 10th year as title sponsor of the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters. Commercial Bank is now proud to announce a three-year extension to our sponsorship of the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, one of The European Tour’s most prestigious and established events.

“We have worked for a decade with our partners including the Qatar Golf Association, Qatar Olympic Committee, The European Tour and Doha Golf Club to help establish the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters as one of Qatar’s greatest sporting spectacles.”

Keith Waters, Chief Operating Officer of The European Tour, said: “The Commercial Bank Qatar Masters has been fortunate to have such a strong title sponsor for 10 years, so this three-year extension is fantastic news for the tournament and everyone at The European Tour thanks Commercial Bank for their continued commitment. The Desert Swing has been a key factor in the growth of golf in Qatar and the Middle East, and Commercial Bank’s support of the Qatar Masters is key to this development.”

Sergio Garcia defends his title this week and is among a host of famous stars to lift the Mother of Pearl Trophy since the event’s inauguration in 1998. Other champions include Henrik Stenson (2006), Ernie Els (2005), Retief Goosen (2007), Thomas Bjørn (2011) and two-time winners Adam Scott (2002, 2008) and Paul Lawrie (1999, 2012).

Hassan Al Nuaimi, President of the Qatar Golf Association, said: “The tournament has grown immeasurably since Commercial Bank signed as title sponsor in 2006 and we’re now proud to host one of The European Tour’s most popular events. Commercial Bank’s continued title sponsorship will ensure the tournament goes from strength to strength and enhances Qatar’s position on the global sporting map.”
