September 30, 2014: High-flying actor Michael Wong dropped into Mission Hills Shenzhen-Dongguan by helicopter on Monday to hone his golf skills ahead of next month’s star-studded Mission Hills World Celebrity Pro-Am.

Daughter Kayla, 21, accompanied the Hong Kong celebrity for the visit to the 12-course resort, where they were welcomed by Tenniel Chu, Vice Chairman of Mission Hills Group.

After receiving a golf lesson, Wong and his daughter attended an outdoor press conference where they were joined by Chu and Hong Kong celebrity model couple Anthony Sandstrom and Jocelyn Luko.

Wong, 49, said he was hoping to team up with 2011 Open Championship winner Darren Clarke in the World Celebrity Pro-Am, which will be staged from October 24-26 at Mission Hills Haikou on the tropical island of Hainan. “I hope I will be partnered with Darren Clarke, since I’ve met him before and would love to play golf with him,” he said.

Chu welcomed back Wong ahead of his third Mission Hills World Celebrity Pro-Am, where the New York-born actor will be one of 24 celebrities teaming up with 24 professional golfers for the globally televised event.

“We are delighted Michael is returning for what will be the biggest and best Mission Hills World Celebrity Pro-Am yet,” Chu said. “With superstars from entertainment and sport joining forces with some of the world’s greatest golfers, this event will further promote golf in China and showcase Mission Hills to the world.”

Wong is among a host of Hong Kong celebrities including Sammo Hung, Simon Yam, Eric Tsang, Natalis Chan and Miriam Yeung, while three of Korea’s biggest celebrities, actress Gianna Jun and singers Rain and Lyn, will also compete.

Taiwanese singer/actor Jay Chou and Hong Kong movie star Donnie Yen are Official Ambassadors for the event, while film director Feng Xiaogang, actors Chen Daoming and Wang Zhiwen, and singer Sun Nan will represent China’s entertainment industry.

Hollywood stars Morgan Freeman, Nicole Kidman, Jessica Alba and Chris Evans, and musician Kenny G are expected to share much of the spotlight with former NBA star Yao Ming, who will take part for a second time. Other sporting icons include two Olympic legends, Chinese gymnast Li Ning and Russian ice skater Evgeni Plushenko.

Apart from Clarke, top golfers taking part include recent Ryder Cup heroes Justin Rose and Ian Poulter and captain Paul McGinley. They will be joined by nine-time major champion Gary Player, two-time major winners Greg Norman and John Daly, and fellow major champions Ian Woosnam and Rich Beem. World No.4 Suzann Pettersen heads a line-up of female pro golfers.

The Mission Hills World Celebrity Pro-Am is sponsored by American Express, Porsche, Stella Artois, Tibet 5100, Kohler, Lindt, San Pellegrino and Appletiser.
