August 3, 2013: China (pictured in red) lost 4-1 to New Zealand and will now face East Asian rivals South Korea in the 11th place playoff at the Women’s Ergo Hockey Junior World Cup in Mönchengladbach, Germany.

India, Asia’s top-performing representative, will take on England in the bronze-medal match on Sunday.

China took on New Zealand in one of only two matches on Saturday, but were outclassed from the start and the Junior Black Sticks will now fight for ninth place with hosts Germany, who beat Korea on Friday.

The Kiwis doubled the score one minute later after another penalty corner, when the ball eventually came to Sian Fremaux who smashed it into the goal for a 2-0 lead at half-time.

The Junior Black Sticks kept up their pace for the entire game and with 20 minutes remaining on the clock, Philippa Symes got her name on the scoresheet before Rose Keddell soon scored from another penalty corner, extending the lead to 4-0.

The young Chinese side struggled to keep up with the bigger and stronger Junior Black Sticks, but fought hard despite the score and eventually pulled one back when Lui Yuyue’s penalty corner shot was deflected in by a defender.
