April 15, 2014: Former boxing world champion Ana ‘The Hurricane’ Julaton will make her mixed martial arts debut at One FC: Rise of Heroes, which will be held at Manila’s Mall of Asia Arena on May 2.

The 33-year-old Filipino-American, who was born and raised in the US and lives in San Francisco, will be a popular draw as she takes on Egyptian kickboxing champion Aya Saeid Saber in a bout that completes the line-up for Rise of Heroes.

Julaton won the vacant IBA super bantamweight world title in September 2009 and then the WBO belt three months later, and her recent contract with One Fighting Championship marks her first step to becoming a two-sport athlete. Julaton is a black belt in taekwondo and Bok Fu, and will be competing for the first time in the Philippines.

“I’m training for my One FC homecoming fight in Manila harder than ever before and what gives me strength through my ups and downs are the hearts of my Kababayon all over,” Julaton said. “Aya Saber is an experienced MMA warrior and champion in kickboxing. I know she will bring her very best.”

Saber has conquered the kickboxing scene in the Middle East and has now set her sights on scaling One FC’s female circuit, where her explosive kicks are allied with steadily improving takedown skills.

“I am excited and honoured to be the first female mixed martial artist from Egypt to compete in One FC,” Saber said. “Unlike Ana, I am not new to MMA. I can’t wait to get into the cage and beat Ana and make my fight team and family proud.”

Victor Cui, CEO of One FC, said: “Filipino fight fans have been clamouring to see Ana Julaton in action for years and their wait is finally over.”
