June 19, 2015: ONE Championship has announced its first-ever event in Myanmar, with the Thuwunna National Indoor Stadium in Yangon hosting ‘Kingdom of Warriors’ on July 18.

Bibiano ‘The Flash’ Fernandes will defend his ONE bantamweight title against Toni ‘Dynamite’ Tauru of Finland in the headliner, with other bouts yet to be announced.

Victor Cui, CEO of ONE Championship, said: “ONE Championship is the first major world-class event in Myanmar with the invitation and support from the Ministry of Sports and we are delighted to finally get the chance to bring our unique brand of adrenaline-pumping mixed-martial-arts action, live to fight fans in Myanmar.

“It is part of our growth plan to bring opportunities to countries with a rich history in martial arts and combat sports such as Myanmar. Hence, we’re building an absolutely explosive fight card and it is our goal to leave a lasting impression with fans across the country.”

U Tint Hsan, Myanmar’s Minister of Sports, said: “Myanmar is now considered a hub for international sports events. With Myanmar hosting ONE Championship, Asia’s largest and the world’s most exciting martial arts event, it will definitely bring a lot of excitement to our people, help promote the country and encourage more people to visit our beautiful nation.”

Fernandes won the ONE bantamweight title by dominating Kim Soo-chul, retained his title against Masakatsu Ueda and Kim Dae-hwan, and is unbeaten inside the ONE cage since debuting for the promotion in 2012.

A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt with multiple world Jiu-Jitsu tournament wins, Fernandes is riding a nine-fight win streak, but will face a tough grappling challenge against Tauru.

Tauru is also on a roll with a 10-fight win streak – winning seven by submission – and is a Cage Warrior Fighting Championship (CWFC) bantamweight champion.
