March 25, 2015: Top seeds BGC Asia Pacific Dragons and second seeds Tradition YCAC remained on course for a repeat of last year’s GFI HKFC Tens final when both sides racked up three straight wins on Wednesday to top Groups A and B respectively.

Third seeds Samurai also won all three of their games as they topped Group C, but the two-time finalists will face Penguins in the quarter-finals after the 2013 champions suffered a shock 7-0 defeat to the French Development Team (FDT) in the day’s last match to finish second in Group D.

Tana Umaga’s Dragons, champions in 2012 and last year, will face French side Pyrenees in the quarters, while YCAC tackle Irish Vikings. FDT will face Hong Kong-based Taikoo Place Scottish Exiles.

Dragons fullback Waisea Nacuqu was the day’s second-highest try scorer with six. “I’m going to do my best to be the top try scorer in this tournament,” he said.

Nacuqu was part of the Fiji sevens training group before missing the cut for the squad chosen for the Hong Kong and Tokyo legs of the HSBC Sevens World Series, but said he remained ready to step in. “If the coach gives me a call for this weekend, I’ll be ready,” he said.
