November 4, 2014: The Singapore Rugby Union (SRU) has reportedly clinched a four-year deal to host a leg of the next HSBC Sevens World Series at its new National Stadium from 2015, with Paris and Vancouver set to join as fellow new entrants on the calendar, SportBusiness.com reported.

An article in Singapore’s Straits Times newspaper said the Singapore Rugby Union (SRU) struck a Host Union Agreement with the IRB (International Rugby Board). A source told the AFP news agency on Monday that an official announcement is expected later this week.

A Singapore stop would be held at the city-state’s new 55,000-seat National Stadium, which opened in June. The new facility is the centrepiece of the Singapore Sports Hub complex.

Singapore is reportedly set to join Vancouver and Paris as new stops on the 2015/16 series. Tokyo and Glasgow are reported to be among cities making way for the new additions.

The 2014/15 World Series began in Australia’s Gold Coast last month and will also travel to UAE, South Africa, New Zealand, USA, Hong Kong, Japan, Scotland and England.

The top four ranked nations at the end of the series in May will qualify for Rio 2016 as the Olympic Games features rugby sevens for the first time in over 90 years.
