October 30, 2014: Societe Generale, one of the largest European financial services groups, has signed a two-year agreement to title sponsor the SCC (Singapore Cricket Club) International Rugby Sevens.

Societe Generale is the first title sponsor in the tournament’s 67-year history and the announcement was made a day ahead of this year’s event, which will be held at The Padang from October 31-November 2. The tournament will be named the Societe Generale SCC International Rugby Sevens Tournament.

The two-year sponsorship will include channelling proceeds to the development of rugby in Singapore in partnership with the Singapore Rugby Union. Also, the tournament title sponsorship is only part of Societe Generale’s wider sponsorship of the SCC Rugby Section as well as the SCC Junior Rugby Academy.

It’s the latest investment in the sport by Societe Generale, which also sponsors the Valley Rugby Football Club in Hong Kong and is a Worldwide Partner of Rugby World Cup 2015.

Pascal Lambert, Societe Generale Group Country Head for Singapore and Head of Corporate and Investment Banking, Southeast Asia, said: “Societe Generale and rugby share the same values of team spirit, commitment, innovation and respect. As Societe Generale celebrates its 150th anniversary this year, we are delighted to partner the Singapore Cricket Club in supporting rugby at all levels while sharing its excitement and best moments with the community.”

Marc Lansonneur, Chairman of the SCC Rugby 7s Organising Committee, was excited at how Societe Generale could boost all aspects of the club’s rugby section.

“It is a pleasure to welcome Societe Generale as title sponsor, as we celebrate our 67th edition of this historical tournament this year. We are proud to have such a respected partner in the world of rugby, as Societe Generale supports our club’s rugby activities. It is an important milestone for all of us at the Singapore Cricket Club and the wider community of Singapore rugby at both senior and junior levels.”

This year’s event features Top 14 side Stade Francais, former champions Penguins and Daveta, and seven Australian clubs.
