June 13, 2015: Siblings Leo and Annie Au won the men’s and women’s titles respectively at the Hong Kong Championships on Saturday, each making up for defeats in last year’s finals.
Annie Au Wing-chi, the current and long-time Hong Kong No. 1, beat 2013 finalist Liu Tsz-ling 3-1 (11-6, 11-9, 4-11, 11-5) at the Hong Kong Squash Centre to win the title for the fourth time. The 26-year-old World No. 10 previously lifted the trophy in 2009, 2011 and 2012.
Liu, 23, knocked out defending champion Joey Chan Ho-ling – who won the title in 2010, 2013 and 2014 – in three games (11-4, 17-15, 11-8) in the semi-finals. Tong Tsz-wing won the third-place playoff after Chan retired through injury at 9-6 down in the opening game.
Leo Au Chun-ming, Au’s younger brother, made it a family double when he fought back from 2-1 down to beat Hong Kong No. 1 Max Lee Ho-yin 3-2 (9-11,11-9, 9-11, 11-4, 11-9) and win the men’s title for the third time in four years.
Lee, currently World No. 16 and Asia’s top-ranked player, also finished runner-up to Au in 2012 and 2013, although he beat the Hong Kong No. 2 to win last year’s final and also won in 2011. Yip Tsz-fung beat Wong Chi-him 3-0 to finish third.
