February 20, 2014: The ITTF (International Table Tennis Federation) has begun inviting bids to host the 2016 ITTF World Junior Table Tennis Championships (WJTTC). The deadline for bid submissions is March 20.

Introduced in 2003 in Santiago, Chile, the World Junior Championships is the most prestigious ITTF-sanctioned event for junior players (aged 18 years and younger).

Raul Calin of ITTF Events said: “The ITTF World Junior Championships is now an integral part of the international calendar. It provides an opportunity to participate in a special global gathering that involves players from different, social and ethnic backgrounds.

“It is not only a sporting occasion but also an educational experience and an investment for the future. The World Junior Championships is an action-packed, eight-day event and we anticipate welcoming 500 players, coaches and officials from over 50 countries.”

The ITTF is inviting all interested cities, associations and organisations to bid for the hosting rights. All applications must be submitted with the support of the respective National Table Tennis Association.
