October 8, 2015: Garbine Muguruza has qualified for this year’s BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global, the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) announced. The tall Spaniard joined Simona Halep and Maria Sharapova in the eight-strong singles field, with five more spots yet to be determined.

Muguruza, 22, will make her first singles appearance at the WTA Finals, having competed in last year’s doubles with compatriot Carla Suarez Navarro. The pair are also in contention to qualify this year.

“I’m very excited to have qualified for the WTA Finals in Singapore. This has been an exciting year for me,” said Muguruza, who reached her first Grand Slam final at Wimbledon in July.

“I have worked very hard this last month and I am really happy how it has paid off. Qualifying for Singapore is a great reward. I have great memories from playing doubles last year and this time I am looking forward to competing against the best singles players in the world.”
