October 21, 2014: An emotional Martina Navratilova unveiled the new WTA Finals doubles trophy that bears her name at Tuesday’s draw for this year’s expanded eight-team competition.

The draw was held at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, where Navratilova dramatically whipped off the cloth covering the large trophy, which will be lifted by one of eight teams competing in a knockout competition that starts at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Fourth seeds Elena Vesnina and Ekaterina Makarova will play Russian compatriots Anastasia Rodionova and Alla Kudryavtseva in the first doubles match at 1.30pm on Wednesday.

China’s Peng Shuai and Taiwan No. 1 Hsieh Su-wei, the defending champions and second seeds, will square off on Wednesday night against the little-and-large Spanish duo of Carla Suarez-Navarro and Garbine Muguruza, the six-foot 21-year-old making her tournament debut.

Top seeds Sara Errani and Robert Vinci of Italy were drawn with Kveta Peschke of the Czech Republic and Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia, while Indian star Sania Mirza and Zimbabwean veteran Cara Black, the third seeds, will battle American “best friends” Abigail Spears and Raquel Kops-Jones.

The first round of the doubles will be contested from Wednesday to Friday, the semi-finals on Saturday and the final at 4.00 pm on Sunday.
